Fly Fish The Farmington River
For those anglers who have never experienced fly fishing a true tail-water fishery Bob Hines Fly Fish RI and myself are hosting trips throughout the summer and fall to fish for trophy trout in one of New Englands most fertile fisheries; The Farmington River. Between Bob and I we offer over 50 years of technical flyfishing experience targeting selective trout.
The Farmington River is nestled in Central Connecticut, a picturesque New England setting with cold water flows and gin clear water. The Farmington boasts some of the best fly hatches for finicky brown and rainbow trout. The water anotomy varies from flat runs to bubbly riffles with productive side channels where stalking fish becomes the key.
Trout range in size from 14 inches to whopping 20 plus inch fish in regular outings. Many time you'll find these fish in skinny side channels feeding on mayflies and terrestrials. The Farmington River is a bottom fed tail-water which means the water flows clear and cold year-round making it one of the North East premier flyfishing destinations.
