Do you love fishing intimate trout streams? Then you'll enjoy Rhode Island's Wood River located in heart of Arcadia Management Area. Nestled in 14,000 acres of wooded pines meanders the Wood River & its tributaries. Fly fish with traditional tactics for wild brook trout  stocked browns and rainbows. Spring brings wonderful mayfly hatches such as black quills, mahogany duns & light cahils. As summer begins you'll find hatches progressing later in the afternoons and early evenings with July being peak for the Hexagenia Limbata (Hex) hatch. This evening hatch brings every trout in the river to the surface. If it is a smaller stream you prefer with lighter fly rods, the feeder streams to the Wood River such as the Falls River, Flat River & Breakheart Brook offer exciting opportunites to fish for wild brook trout in an intimate setting. We fish these tributaries throughout the year including the winter months. These areas consist of small runs, riffles, and pockets where wild brookies love to hide. For guided trips contact us at River & Riptide Anglers and we'll share our knowledge and experience on the water.

Peak Times on the Wood River:
  • Closed March through 2nd Saturday in April
  • May through July (Peak Hatches)
  • August (Terrestrials)
  • September through December (Terrestrials / Caddis / Streamers / Nymphs)

If a western style river is your preference, lets head 90 miles west to the Farminfton River in Connecticut. This tailwater offers a wide range of water anotomy and some of the best dry fly fising in the east. The Farmington River offers pockets, runs, riffles & deep pools for big brown and rainbow trout. The Farmington River is one of the best tailwaters I have ever fished and guided.
